-Shots

We have been focusing on the openings of these three Genre's: Romantic Comedy, Thriller and Horror. We have been comenting on the conventions that appear in these.

Romantic Comedy
When watching the opening sequence of a romantic comedy you would expect to see the two main people introduced but in completly different ways, these are usually the two people that will fall in love throughout the film, it will show the different lives they lead and gives us a basic overview of what their personality is like. You will also expect to hear a song that usually links back to the film which would usualy be something cheerfull. like in Pretty Women, Vivene (Julia Roberts) is a prostitue and her character is introduced with a song by Iggy Pop and the Stooges called Wild One this gives us the better idea of what shes like because of the words in the song.
when watching an opening to a Romantic comedy we also see an establishing shot which shows the background of both characters.

Thrillers
We also watched a series of opening of Thrillers, and from what we have seen they havent all started with the creepy type music, one of them started with a upbeat tune. Thrillers arent ment to scare you there made to make you think. Usually in a thriller you would see the subject, an establish shot of were the film is set, and you would also get a basic out look of what the film is going to be about. One of the openings we watched was called and that had a upbeat opening, which confused me because when you think of thriller you would think of slow, grizzly music but this was different, we then saw the main character drunk in the police station which was more funny than thrilling, but it also made me think why was he in the police station anyway, it then showed him disserpear away from his friend, leaving behind a brown paper bag with angel wings inside, and this is when we start to think about whats goin to happen next.

Horrors
We then watched the openings of different Horrors, which what we saw was expected, the creepy writing at the start, the scary music in the background and the red colours which usually symbolises blood and death. we watched which gave us a better idea of how a horror starts, this particular film started with a young girl sitting on what looks like a hospital bed whispering prayers to herself with loads of wounds on her back, from this we immediately get the picture that shes been seriously hurt, thats when we see a flashback of her running in the woods in the early morning, while shes doing this the music becomes alot more intense and builds up the viewers suspense. she then runs out into the road as a car is driving towards her and as it stops she slaps her bloody hands onto the windows and then disappears. At this point the music ends with a sudden DUN! This usually shows that theres more to the film and makes us want to see whats going to happen next.
